House Kolaire

House Kolaire is a player-made Ishgardian lesser noble house on the Mateus sever. Open to connections!Motto: To fight or to work, we stand ready.

Overview

The Kolaire family is a lesser noble house in Ishgard pledged to House Haillenarte, and who's fortune has always been made through metalworks and goldsmithing. They are most notably known in Ishgard for their weaponsmithing, but outside of Ishgard are better known for their jewelcrafting and magical foci.Having gained their nobility through their dedication to supplying Ishgard's military rather than through bloodline, House Kolaire has only enjoyed nobility for a few generations. Instead of taking risks to seize power and influence, the previous Barons invested in the security of what wealth and power the House already had through meticulously perfecting the family craft. As a result, the House is known for exceptionally high quality products and service. Despite having very little influence in Ishgardian politics until recently, the House has always had staunch allies and an even more unshakeable reputation; securing itself financially, politically, and socially.

Quick Info

  • Current Viscount: Roche Kolaire

  • Pledged to: House Haillenarte

  • Known for: Weaponsmithing, armorsmithing, jewelcrafting for magical foci, and jewelcrafting for fashion

  • Position on Ishgard's social reformation: In favor of and ardent supporters of Aymeric's proposals.

Business and Politics

While the House itself hasn't suffered tremendously in the wake of the closing of the Gates of Judgement nor from the Calamity, the individuals of the family certainly have. Within that time, not only did the House and family lose it's heir, Hadrien, it also saw the deaths of both the Baron and Baroness. For a variety of reasons, young Roche became the Baron of the House at age twenty-four. While many in both the Kolaire and Maret Houses were worried about the early succession and stepped up to provide assistance, Roche proved to be a surprisingly adept Baron. Not only has he avoided making mistakes that could damage or weaken the business and political spheres of the House, he's actively elevated them both in the last few years. So much so, in fact, that in his third year, the House had risen enough in status that he was able to afford himself the title of Viscount. In this short amount of time, he's become a semi-recongizible figure in Ishgardian politics, reopened trade with old clients in Ul'dah and Sharlayan, and initiated new trade agreements with other houses and organizations as well.

Political Status

Due to the overall difficulty for mercantile-focused households to secure social mobility, the Kolaire House has, until very recently, always been a minor lesser house. While seen by some as non-ambitious, the House and it's heads have historically been, simply put, risk adverse. Consistency, comfort, and security have been prized more than political influence. Further, they've always maintained an air of respect and dignity towards lowborn, something that only rarely wins them favor (more often disdain) among other, more powerful Houses.

Business Enterprises

The House does not, nor has it ever, have qualms with family members splitting off to pursue their own professional aspirations. While there has always been a 'core' House business that at least one person in the family maintains, the House actually encourages members to start their own entrepreneurial endeavors. For some, this means starting an entire company or business. For others, it could mean enlisting their skills in larger companies such as the Skysteel Manufactory or working in allied nations like Ul'dah or Sharlayan. Either way, the reputation and coin, at the end of the day, makes it back to the House.

At the moment, there are less unique enterprises attached to the House than usual, given that many family members chose instead to consolidate their efforts, wealth, and resources into the main House business in the wake of the Calamity. In previous generations, the head of the House would also hold the position of the head smith of the family business. However, given that the current Viscount is not a smith, the younger brother of the previous Baron now holds the title. There is also current talks of permanently splitting the business and politics side of the House with it's practical sphere by allowing the brother's son to inherit the business entirely, rather than the Viscount's eventual children.

Currently

Out of the currently living members of the House's main family, the twins Roche and Rosemonde, and the scholar-entrepreneur Avelle are the most active in Ishgardian affairs.Roche and Rosemonde, who are equal in all but title in regards to the House's business affairs, have striven to become influential figures in Ishgard's new government. Rather than attempt to secure a position in the House of Lords and risk political conflict with more wealthy nobles, they've instead sought to politically and financially support the seat-holders of the House of Commons. This support isn't unexpected; it falls in line with both the Kolaire and Maret Houses' reputations for sponsoring and advocating for Ishgard's lowborn citizenry. While Avelle does spend a majority of her time out of country, it is because of her research and archaeological work frequently requires her to be on-site. She also is the most successful entrepreneur in the family of the moment, owning two business; one of which deals in artifact restoration and has clients as big as the Ala Mhigan restoration effort.

Recent History

House Kolaire has experienced significant change and growth in the last decade. Within the last few years alone, the House has risen in social status enough that it can now be considered a influential lesser house, who's Head is befitting of the title Viscount. The turning point for the family is obvious: The marriage of Mathieu Kolaire, heir and head smith of House Kolaire, and Ida Maret, eldest daughter of House Maret. Given that House Maret is a much more influential lesser house, this catapulted the Kolaire House into the social circus of nobility and politics in a way it had never been previously. The joining of the Maret family with the Kolaire family proved to be a smooth and advantageous one. Many of the Maret's militarily connected allies took their business to the Kolaire smiths and the Kolaires rose a few steps up the social ladder, especially in militarily-minded circles. The couple had three children initially; Hadrien, Norvette, and Vanremi, each born a few years apart. After a small respite, Avelle was born, followed shortly by the twins Roche and Rosemonde, and then finally the unexpected and genuinely unplanned Lissandra. All of the Kolaire children received a varied education covering basics, politics, business, and craftsmanship. Each of the children also received basic combat and self-defense training; with additional, more rigorous trainings provided to the children who showed interest in joining the military.House Kolaire is known for being a smaller House with large families. Despite the family often having at minimum four children each generation, the House itself does not boast many divergent family branches or trees. This is largely due to non-heirs tending to prefer to either bear no children or to marry into more powerful families. The House is incredibly close-knit and loyal and many speculate this tradition is carried out to prevent in-fighting and conflicts of succession.

House Kolaire History

House Kolaire obtained it's nobility and status around the time of the Skysteel Manufactory's founding in 1483 as a reward for the founder and his two brothers' dedication to seeing the Manufactory's success. Almost immediately after being risen the House pledged itself to it's sponsor, House Haillenarte. Since then, nearly every generation has seen a handful of it's members work in the Manufactory or pledge themselves as House Knights to House Haillenarte. While the house has always been mercantile at it's core, it has also produced many talented Knights and scholars and has never denied the call to join the fight against the Dravanian Horde. Thusly, the House Motto became: "To fight or to work, we stand ready." Whatever Ishgard and its people need, House Kolaire has been ready and willing to provide.Much like their patron, House Kolaire has always taken the consideration and well-being of Ishgard's lowborn and common man into consideration. Many of the family's side enterprises throughout the House's history have exclusively hired lowborn workers in order to help elevate them. Supplies needed by aspiring lowborn Knights or scholars are often given deeply discounted or outright for free.Luckily, their wealth has never been completely tied to Ishgard's economy. The members of the family who specialize in goldsmithing and gemcrafting have had customers and business in Ul'dah and Sharlayan throughout the years. While they do make a fair bit of coin selling fashion pieces, like jewelry and accessories, the primary means of income from both of these nations stems from foci creation; Wands, staves, magically imbued jewelry, etc.Due to their relatively small size and influence, House Kolaire has seldom taken in House Knights. The few that existed were most often members of House Kolaire to begin with, or lowborn that had been taken in as wards. This changed with the joining of House Kolaire with House Maret, but still, few actually pledge to House Kolaire itself even today.

House Maret History

The Maret family is a minor noble house of decent renown with a solid reputation both prior to and after the end of the Dragonsong War. The family gained their noble status many centuries ago when the founding head of the family, Thevenin Maret, earned a position as a Temple Knight through emerging victor in a tourney and then went on to complete several feats of strength and valor over the following years. The culmination of Thevenin's legacy and the feat that won him nobility was a three day defense of a small hamlet that had been serving as a temporary medic station on the outskirts of a battlefield. Unfortunately, the battlefield had spread faster than the hamlet could evacuate either the injured nor residents.Thevenin had been one of six Knights stationed to protect the hamlet. By the second day only he and one other Knight were left standing. Rallying the hamlet's villagers and rushing them through the basics of fighting and defending against dragons, the two Knights managed to successfully lead an impromptu guard against no less than 6 different skirmishes. The two of them were also responsible for the majority of the kills, having taught the villagers how to defend and confuse their enemies as it was safer than outright engaging. This also resulted in many of the villagers surviving the encounter. After their ordeal, both Thevenin and the other Knight were granted nobility. Further, the Thevenin was granted ownership and guardianship of the hamlet. Many of the villagers were brought into the House and formally trained to be House Knights to the Maret House.Since then, the Maret family has made it not only a habit, but in many ways a mission to elevate talented individuals through Knighthood and is well known for sponsoring many successful Knights, clergy members, and even scholars through the centuries. At some point, they also pledged to House Haillenarte. While they do have holdings in the city of Ishgard proper, the hamlet they owned and protected was in Corethas, making them relatively estranged from central Ishgardian politics. While it may have been considered distasteful by other members of nobility to take in and or sponsor so many lowborn, the House is clearly devout and dedicated to the Church. Therefore, they've had very few incidents with other houses over the years, as their reputation is relatively untouchable.

OOC

If you would like to be involved with House Kolaire/Maret, either by playing someone from either family or by having a story connection to them, please contact me through Discord via AvaZope#1323 or in-game on Lissandra Kolaire, Avelle Kolaire, or Rheanne Maret.I'd love to discuss how to get involved in the family; either through playing a named NPC or by creating a new character. New characters could be branch family members, Marets, knights/squires, employees, and more! I'm open to planning and workshopping.I'd also love to discuss how to connect the Kolaire/Maret families to other noble houses, commoners, tradesmen, you name it. While canonically both families rarely have serious conflicts with other houses, I'm down for workshopping any kind of connection. If it's intriguing, I'll consider it!

RP Hooks

Want a less planned way to interact with the House lore? Here's some RP hooks you can include as details in RP without needing to workshop it with me!

  • If your character/House is involved in the new Ishgard government, there's a chance they've seen Roche and Rosemonde and their work.

  • If your character/House is involved in the Skysteel Manufactory and other similar craftsman spheres in Ishgard, they've very likely either met a Kolaire or heard of the Kolaire House and their work.

  • If your character/House is involved in Saint Endalim Scholasticate, either as previous students, aspiring hopefuls looking for a sponsor, or current professors, they might have met a Kolaire or heard of the Kolaire House in some capacity.

  • If your character is Sharlayan or uses magical foci, there's a potential they've heard of/interacted with Kolaire businesses or met Avelle and Lissandra during the five years they studied in Old Sharlayan.

  • If your character is big on jewelry, either to sell it or to own it, there's a potential they've heard of/interacted with Kolaire businesses.

  • If your character/House is involved in any facet of Ishgardian military, there's a potential they've either met a Maret or heard of the Maret House.

Family Members

The following characters are a mixture of PCs and NPCs. Each will be marked accordingly. See OOC and RP Hooks for more details on creating a character of either House Kolaire or Maret!

Main Family - Living

Avelle Kolaire

Gender: Female (she/her) || Age: 35 || Occupation: Historian, Businesswoman, Astrologian || PC- AvaZope

Avelle is one of the most independently accomplished members of her family in the last handful of generations. It's been remarked that she embodies the qualities historically attributed to both of her parent's Houses; inheriting the cautious, empathetic nature of House Kolaire alongside the ambitious, righteous reputation of House Maret. Her reputation in Ishgard varies from group to group but most consistently she is regarded as a talented, respectable, and compassionate woman.Avelle traveled with her younger sister Lissandra to Old Sharlayan when she was twenty to stay with their cousin, Fran, and take advantage of Sharlayan scholarship and academic resources. During her years of advanced study, she was most engaged with the studies of international political and cultural history, the reapplication of damaged empowerments on magical foci, anthropology, and archeology. By the time she was a hosting her own excavations she had established a reputation as a force to be reckoned with among her peers and a reputation for being a valuable resource for younger scholars with interests in her fields of expertise.Currently, she runs two businesses: The Emporium, located in Kugane, where she's lived for the last few years and the Balanced Bole, which she's currently in the process of relocating to Ishgard. The Emporium is an antiques and artifact restoration company that specializes in reclaiming and restoring artifacts retrieved from settlements recently vacated by their Garlean occupiers. The Balanced Bole is her fortune-telling business. She also paints as a semi-professional hobby and is a recognizable artist. (Fun fact: All canvas/painting looking screenshots on the carrd are her paintings!)To read more about Avelle, check out her Carrd!

Lissandra Kolaire

Gender: Female (she/her) || Age: 30 || Occupation: Adventurer, Blade for Hire, Engineer || PC- AvaZope

Mercurial, stubborn, and insatiably curious: Lissandra is a talented but difficult woman with a slightly concerning zeal for retrofitting magitech weaponry. Equipped with a strong moral compass and a weak sense of foresight, she's spent her life filtering in and out of groups and companies; always seeking out someone to help, something interesting to do, or for something new to learn.Being the youngest member of a large family comes with a significant amount of freedom, something which Lissandra takes complete advantage of. The older members of House Kolaire actively encouraged her to pursue whatever interested her, as it ultimately wouldn't matter what she did so long as she was content with her life. Unfortunately, she took this a little too literally, and spent most of her childhood jumping from interest to interest with none of them really sticking for longer than a few months at best.Having recently ended a nearly three year stint serving on the Bozjan front, she now finds herself working odd jobs and volunteering her time and expertise in helping rebuild Garlemeld in an effort to learn more about the everyday Garlean citizen. To read more about Lissa, check out her Carrd!

Roche Kolaire

Gender: Male (he/him) || Age: 30 || Occupation: Viscount of House Kolaire || NPC

Roche Kolaire is the current and first Viscount of House Kolaire. Prior to his time as head of the House, the family had only warranted the authority and influence afforded a Baron. But in the handful of years since Roche inherited the House, he has successfully managed to elevate his House's status through business deals and political scheming.Growing up, Roche and his twin Rosemonde were near inseparable- much to everyone's collective exasperation. The two play off each other and goad one another into increasingly complex schemes and incidents. Of the two, Roche was always the more willing to act but was very rarely the mastermind. (Or at least, he only rarely took credit.)Viscount Roche is currently considered a wild card among fellow nobility. Despite having inherited the position at an unfortunately young age, Roche was not nearly as naïve as was expected of him. Coupled with the expectation that he would be as passive, unambitious, and cautious as the previous heads of House Kolaire had been; very few were prepared to see him getting involved in politics and undertake unusually risky business ventures for the House. This element of surprise helped his endeavors succeed and by the time his political and business opponents had figured out what to expect of him, he had securely situated the House in a newer, higher position. Five years ago he married Irene Descoteaux, whom he'd been courting for a few years. They have one child.

Rosemonde Satre

Gender: Female (she/her) || Age: 30 || Occupation: Unofficial Viscountess of House Kolaire and Official Lady of House Satre || NPC

Rosemonde is everything you would expect an Ishgardian Lady; prim, proper, and confident. Rosemonde is well equipped to mingle with the uppermost elite of Ishgard's nobility. She's a nearly spitting image of her mother but with a veneer of delicacy that Ida never possessed. Granted, there's nothing dainty about Rosemonde and to assume otherwise is to risk underestimating her.Growing up, Roche and his twin Rosemonde were near inseparable- much to everyone's collective exasperation. The two play off each other and goad one another into increasingly complex schemes and incidents. Of the two, Rosemonde always commanded attention; taking credit and blame alike so long as she was the focal point. She considers herself, jokingly, to be somewhat of a martyr. Like the rest of her family, she is genuinely compassionate and has a strong sense of moral justice and duty. However, she recognized at an early age that someone in her family would need to be willing to play dirty if they continued to become more involved in politics. Luckily for her, she's not only good at playing the haughty noble bitch... she actively enjoys it. Two years before the Calamity, she followed in her mother's footsteps and married a sweet, timid man- Dimitri Satre- who was the second son of House Satre; an old, influential house known primarily for serving the Church as tailors for ceremonial robes and dresses. They have two children.

Vanremi Kolaire

Gender: Male (he/him) || Age: 38 || Occupation: Cartographer, Traveling Bard || NPC

Vanremi is the dearly beloved black sheep of the family. The family joked that he was smiling at his birth and has yet to frown. He's incredibly sociable and friendly and maintains an unshakeable sense of calmness even in the most stressful of situations. Perhaps to make up for lost time, Vanremi is very supportive of his younger siblings and currently "works" for Avelle in one of her businesses.By all accounts, Vanremi should be the current head of House Kolaire. While arguably he never wanted the position to begin with and would have handed it down to Roche regardless, the primary reason he was overlooked was because of his nearly decade long absence from Ishgard. Both Hadrien and Vanremi joined the Eorzean Alliance under Ishgard's banner but only served for about a year before Ishgard formally withdrew. When Norvette passed away, Vanremi left alongside his sisters. Unlike them, however, he didn't return, and instead rejoined the Eorzean Alliance as an independent fighter where he remained until recently. It's likely that Vanremi deeply regrets his absence in some manner. After all, he wasn't present for the deaths of his brother nor either of his parents. While he did keep in contact through letters, he did technically also miss out on significant portions of his younger siblings' lives. For now, though, he is unlikely to be willing to admit to it.

Main Family - Deceased

Mathieu Kolaire

Gender: Male (he/him) || Occupation: Blacksmith, Armorsmith || NPC

Mathieu Kolaire was a soft-spoken, humble, and introverted man who at a glance seemed incredibly unfit for the position of a House Baron. This wouldn't have been an inaccurate assumption as Mathieu preferred to be working in the sweltering comfort of a smithshop more than anything else. Luckily his wife Ida was a calculating and extroverted woman who was equally comfortable on a battlefield or in an event hall. While he still publicly held authority over his House, it was a poorly kept secret that Ida was the point of authority for most House matters.Mathieu was the soft parent; keen on spoiling, incapable of saying no, and a little less concerned with the social ramifications of his children's choices than perhaps he should have been. It's no surprise, then, that he was the favorite and the one whom the children confided in the most. He died 'young', at the age of fifty-one, but not unexpectedly, having spent the last year suffering from an illness with a steadily declining health. So far, he has been the only member of the current House Kolaire to die surrounded by family.

Ida Kolaire

Gender: Female (she/her) || Occupation: House Knight, Baroness || NPC

Ida Kolaire, initially Ida Maret, was a spitfire, ambitious, and calculating woman with a reputation for a relentless pursuit of success. Despite being the eldest child of House Maret, she would be overlooked for succession as per Ishgard cultural norms. This embittered her at an early age and would remain the driving force behind her actions and motivations until her death. As she grew older, Ida realized that if she were to gain any true amount of control and authority, she'd need to either marry Baron or Viscount without an ego or make her mark as a Knight. Naturally, she deemed the first option as unlikely as it was unappealing. And so she enlisted to begin training as a squire to serve as a House Knight for her House. During this time, however, she would run into Mathieu Kolaire a handful of times and would quickly realize he was the solution to her problem. While her initial motivations for pursuing Mathieu were more logical than they were romantic, the two genuinely enjoyed each other's company and found that they meshed together quite well. Within a year they were married and soon after pregnant with their first child, Hadrien. Ida would continue to train and eventually serve as a House Knight until Mathieu formally inherited House Kolaire and became its Baron. Still, she never fully quit her duties and would often be seen training or instructing House Kolaire and House Maret Knights. She died during the Calamity, as one of many causalities to the sudden and aggressive snowstorms that blanketed the Coerthas Highlands.

Norvette Kolaire

Gender: Female (she/her) || Occupation: Dragoon, Armorsmith || NPC

Norvette was a quiet young woman with a bright smile and a warm countenance. She was a talented armorsmith, having taken to the craft with an ease her father remarked he hadn't seen in generations. She enjoyed parties, unlike many of her siblings, but mostly because she loved to dance. In short, she was very much her father's daughter. Therefore, it was a shock to nearly everyone that she was insistent that she enlist to become a Knight. Many of her cousins in House Maret supported her appeal, even when she doubled down and voiced her intention to join the Order of the Knights Dragoon. Begrudgingly, her family allowed her to begin training with the expectation that she would not flourish and would eventually change her path. Instead, she managed to not only complete her training with higher than average marks, she did so by the time she was nineteen. Despite their initial hesitation, by the time she completed her training she had the full support of her family in both Houses. Unfortunately, she would only serve as a Dragoon for a few years before dying to the Dravanian Horde.Norvette's family was shaken by the sudden and unexpected loss. Her death and its impact served as a catalyst for many of the family's future conflicts and disagreements. Still, none of her family regarded her as such, either because their love for her outweighed their disagreements or because they were/are oblivious to its impact.

Hadrien Kolaire

Gender: Male (he/him) || Occupation: House Knight, Armorsmith || NPC

Hadrien was the eldest son of Mathieu and Ida Kolaire and had originally been set to inherit the House. He was regarded as a perfect blend of his parents; handsome, duty-driven, charismatic, and clever. While he was not as ambitious as his mother nor her family, he was less complacent than Kolaire heirs normally were. At twelve he had become the eldest to six other siblings who's future happiness and well-being would eventually rest upon his shoulders. When he was old enough he decided to enlist as a squire in training to become a House Knight for House Maret instead of pursuing further craftsman training or academic studies like many of his younger siblings. The decision paid off, as he gained a moderate amount of renown and recognition during his nearly ten years of service. This recognition reflected well on House Kolaire and helped solidify their connections in militarily minded circles. While he did have a few brief courting affairs, he did not marry before his death at the age of thirty-three. Even after his death, the reputation he'd garnered for his House persisted; something that benefited Roche tremendously early on.Hadrien wasn't always popular with his younger siblings, as he was stern with them in their childhood years and rarely engaged in their shenanigans. Still, he was often the first person they went to in times of trouble (big or small), often before even their parents. He might have berated them the whole time but he always had their backs.

Kolaire Branch Family and Spouses

Helyot Kolaire

Gender: Male (he/him) || Age: Fifties || Occupation: Blacksmith, Armorsmith || NPC || Playable

Helyot is the second eldest of Mathieu's siblings. Trained from a young age like his brother, Helyot is an accomplished smith. After the sudden death of his brother and the succession of a young, untrained Roche into the Head of the Household, Helyot stepped up and offered to take the position of Head Smith until Roche either learned the trade or produced an heir capable and willing of taking the position. Roche, however, has other plans, and intends to let Helyot hold the position as long as he pleases and then, upon his retirement, pass down the authority of the position to his children instead.Helyot has always been a beloved Uncle to the children of the family.

Andry Kolaire

Gender: Male (he/him) || Age: Early-Mid Twenties || Occupation: Blacksmith, Armorsmith || NPC || Playable

Andry is the eldest son of Helyot Kolaire. Due to changing dynamics in House Kolaire structure, he is set to inherit the smithing part of the family business, something no child of a branch sibling has done.

Francette (Fran) Kolaire

Gender: Female (she/her) || Age: Late Fifties || Occupation: Gleaner || NPC

Francette (Fran) Kolaire's father, Florimond Kolaire, was Mathieu's great uncle who traveled to Sharlayan to set up trade agreements and ultimately decided to stay. After marrying he had two children, one of which was Fran.Fran grew up traveling; often visiting family in Ishgard and attending trade meetings in other nations with her father. It surprised no one that she was drawn to the gleaner profession nor when she joined up as soon as she was able.Eluyate has been married to Francette (Fran) Kolaire for nearly twenty years. They have no children but have had several pets.

Irene Kolaire (née Descoteaux)

Gender: Female (she/her) || Age: Early-Thirties || Occupation: Viscountess of House Kolaire || NPC

Irene Kolaire, previously Irene Descoteaux, is the youngest child of the Descoteaux family, which had, prior to the Calamity, been a relatively small but wealthy lesser house whose fortune was built through their vineyards in Coerthas.Irene and Roche were childhood friends and had initially shown no interest in each other romantically. When Roche stepped forward to begin courting her shortly after the Calamity both families were suspicious of his motives and were concerned that his desire to marry her was simply a misguided attempt to help Irene (and the Descoteaux family by extension). It took nearly three years for Roche to convince Irene and their families that his love for her was as genuine as his desire to help a family he grew up alongside and respected. Now the two are happily married with one daughter.

Dimitri Satre

Gender: Male (he/him) || Age: Early-Thirties || Occupation: Tailor, Trophy Husband || NPC

Dimitri Kolaire, previously Dimitri Satre, was the second son of House Satre, an old and influential house of tailors who's most frequent customers is the clergy of Ishgard before marrying into the Kolaire family. He's a very sweet, mellow man who's easy to please and who's more than happy to hold his wife's purse while she claims the spotlight.Dimitri and Rosemond had known each other for a few years prior to courting as their social circles often overlapped. Their courting was especially quick as Rosemond had made her decision and who was Dimitri to argue with the lovely, intelligent woman who apparently wanted to marry him? The two married within a year of courting and had their first of two sons less than a year later.

Eluyate

Gender: Female (she/her) || Age: Middle-Aged for Viera || Occupation: Archon, Researcher, Astrologian || NPC

Eluyate moved to Sharlayan from Shaaloani decades ago to further develop her magical talents and access their abundance of scholarly materials and research. Since arriving she's flourished, taking an interest in astromancy and crystallography. Her archon thesis delved into the precise manner in which astrologian tools assist in spellcasting and fortune-weaving to better understand how different variations of these tools across cultures are used to produce similar spell effects.Eluyate has been married to Francette (Fran) Kolaire for nearly twenty years. They have no children but have had several pets.

Maret Family

Rheanne Maret

Gender: Female (she/her) || Age: 50 || Occupation: Aether Scholar, Black Market Trader || PC- AvaZope

Rheanne Maret- Ida's younger sister- is an unfortunate blight on the family's reputation. This is due to the nature of Rheanne's obsession with 'unusual' magics (see: forbidden), accusations of heresy, and subsequent self-exile a little over a decade ago. Rheanne was a highly successful researcher and combatant but eventually fell out of favor and swiftly under investigation for heresy when she began vocally advocating for the increased study of conjury and deeper study of heretical magic. She 'claimed' her suggestions were in order to better understand their enemy's techniques and while this wasn't necessarily false, it was clear that her goal wasn't to use the understanding against them. In truth, she genuinely felt something about Ishgard's understanding of 'heretical' magic was off and thought a deeper investigation might help stop some of the conflict outright. However, she never stated this, knowing it was futile, and put up meager defenses for herself when accused. When even her House's reputation could no longer protect her, she fled into the Hinterlands. Most believed she joined the ranks of the heretics. Only her immediate family mourned her as a loss; the rest reviled and demonized her in an attempt to distance their reputations from her. She recently made a triumphant return with the end of the Dragonsong War and the truth of Ishgard's past being brought to light. Still, she spends very little time in the city because, naturally, she picked up even more 'unusual' magics during her years away. When she is in the city, she tends to stay on Kolaire property and avoids the Marets, who still haven't fully accepted her back.To see more about Rheanne, visit her Carrd!
